I've lost my best friend.
Those of you that know me, know about my best friend Rocky Balboa, Esquire.  The happy-go-lucky Chug that changed my entire life, saved it even. Smart.  Loving.  Caring.  Quiet.  Powerful.  Everything. I’m sorry to report that Rocky passed away on Monday evening while I was in Israel.  Luckily, my family decided not to tell me until I got home.  Needless to say, I feel lost without my...

I get by with a little help from my friends… I turned down a few interview requests to talk about Steve Jobs last night and today.  However, I joined @whatstrending and a few of my friends to talk about the impact Steve Jobs had on our lives.  Please enjoy.

The Email that I sent to Steve Jobs
Did Mr. Jobs answer? I will never tell. Drew Olanoff to sjobs show details 3/22/10   I just wanted to say thank you for being so inspiring, I had a tough time of things last year after being diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.  You inspired me to put a ding in the universe and do something good, so I started http://www.BlameDrewsCancer.com and auctioned off my Twitter name (@drew) to Drew...

Lori Dorn: TSA Update →
loridorn: When I wrote the preceding post, I had no idea how far it would reach. I’m glad that it’s out there now, particularly since the TSA responded publicly with an apology and a promise to retrain staff in handling sensitive situations. We do our best to treat passengers with the dignity and…

Lori wins, the TSA apologizes
Not that there’s a winner here, but Lori who as I mentioned was horribly mistreated by the TSA, got an official apology and promise to re-train its staff. Lori is my hero. Read the blog post here. http://blog.tsa.gov/2011/10/cancer-patient-screening-at-jfk.html

On The Next Venture
parislemon: I’ve been thinking about how I was going to write this post for a while now. Of course, I didn’t anticipate that I would be writing at 2 AM local time in London, where I’m currently visiting to speak at FOWA in a couple of days (that talk also just potentially got more interesting). Stuff happens. Fortunately, sometimes, so does jetlag.  Enough with burying the lede: yes, I’m...

parislemon: All day, I kept telling myself I shouldn’t say anything. Then I realized: what the fuck? Be honest. I found Paul’s post tactless. And I found Erick’s response inappropriate. parislemon: I recently crossed 1,000 friends on Facebook. Am I actually friends with a thousand people? No. Not even close. If I were using Facebook to only be in contact with people I consider myself at least somewhat close to, I’d probably have more like 100 friends. Maybe less. For a long time I haven’t cared about using Facebook in this restricted way because I’ve basically been using it...

Take you back...do do do dooooooooooo
Allow me to take you back. I was 15 years old. Sitting in my dad’s basement…you know the story. I was on AOL and I was in a chatroom. Talking to people. It was the “Philly” chatroom, and my username was FlyrFn69. I was checking profiles, connecting with people in real-time. It was amazing. I realized very early on that I enjoyed getting in a room and talking to...

For so long we couldn’t say ‘Cancer.’ We couldn’t say ‘HIV’ or ‘AIDS.’ We couldn’t say ‘Anorexic.’ Why? Because all of these items are taboo and something that could never happen to us. We don’t smoke-never getting cancer. We don’t engage in high-risk sexual behavior- never getting HIV/AIDS. We have healthy body image- never will become anorexic. What about a real disease, one that affects...

2010, a year in Drewview.
So 2010 is pretty much done and over with. Yeah, wow…that was fast. The theme of 2010 for me was “you should have trusted your gut”.  Too many times I said and did things that I thought were the things I “had to do” or things I “should do” regardless of whether my gut said it was a bad idea or not. I struck out quite a bit this year trying to swing for...

The Group Revolution
I work at textPlus.  The mobile social network built on top of texting technology that focuses on Groups.  So clearly I have a special interest in the idea of smaller, intimate social networks. Social Networking as we know it is way too big for its britches.  Anything huge and expansive is hard to...
